10 Tips to Save Money on Entertainment

Saving money is one of those things that is easier said then done. That is why we will post a series of money saving tips. Part 4 will focus on saving money on entertainment.

The other parts can be found here:

So, now that is that out of the way, we can start with the money saving tips:

1. Entertaining at home
You want to hold a party, but you don’t want to pay for the entire party. Why don’t you hold a potluck dinner? Potluck dinners are a good way to hold a party. (For people that do not know; a potluck is a gathering of people where each person is expected to bring a dish of food to be shared among the group.) People will love it, trust me!

2. Movie Night at Home
Hold a movie night at home instead of going to the movie theater with the whole family.
Or better yet, make it a tradition, a movie night once a month for instance. Buy some popcorn, chips, soda’s and make a special occasion each month. Children will love it and after some time will look forward to it.

3. Coupon Books
A good way to save money on entertainment (and other stuff) is by using the entertainment coupon book from entertainment.com. The book will pay itself with only a few coupons. Each year they have a new book, with tons of saving opportunities in them.

4. Cost Nothing
The best way to save money on entertainment is by doing something that cost nothing at all. There are lots of things out there that you can attend at no cost at all. Just some examples: poetry readings, local free concerts, events at library, special town markets, fairs, bird watching, nature walks, some museums, sport centre and so one. Check your local newspaper for free things to do in your local area!

5. Sports Events
If you are into sports then you know that going to a ballgame (for instance) can get expensive. You not only have to buy the tickets, but you most likely want to drink or eat something during the game. So why don’t you pack a cooler with something to drink or eat, this will save you some dollars.

6. Memberships
Some memberships like American Automobile Association (AAA), AARP or other clubs of this type, offer discounts on a whole range of events (like on theatre or amusement parks.)

7. Subscriptions
Are you such a person that has subscriptions on magazines or newspapers and only glance through them? If you don’t read the whole thing, why don’t you unsubscribe, this will save you a lot. Don’t pay for something you don’t fully use!

You could also read most magazines or newspapers at the local library for free.

8. Outdoors
To save money on entertainment you can do something in the great outdoors. You could go hiking, running, fishing or camping for example.

9. Board Games
Almost everybody have some old board games lying around. Take them out for a great family night of games. And the best thing it’s free!

10. Some Culture
There are many zoos, planetariums, aquariums, historical societies or museums out there that are run by non-profit organizations. Many of them have days that you can visit for free or have huge discount days. If you like to visit one of them when ever you want, but still have a discount, then check if they have an annual membership that offers a discount.

What ever you do, we hope you have a lot of fun!
