A blog on your business website can be very beneficial for your business and the users of your businesses products. But what things can you write about on your business blog, below you’ll find some examples.

Announcements

Whenever your business launches a new product or a new feature in a service, you should write a announcement on your blog. Try to combine it with some lucrative promotional offer (for example reduce pricing for a short period), so people will come back to your blog on a regular basis for new features or good deal. (Also don’t forget to tweet your announcement.)

Benefits and Features of your Products

Try to talk about your products and services and do it in a positive tone, so people become exited about your products or services. Point out the features of products and try to point out the benefits for the consumers.

Tutorials

Try to write some tutorials about your products, this way you can help new customers to learn your products or services. People like to read great tips about products they own and they will come back to your blog for more great tips. Also let them comment on your tutorials, so you can hear what people like to read about (free feedback on your products and services.)

Related Tips

Some times it is possible to use certain product or services with your businesses products and services. If this is so, make some blog posts about it. People love to read tips and tricks about the products they own.

Related News

Write about new things in your industrie or about related industries. This helps you to make your business blog more informative and also people will come back more often (more general news to read about.)

These are just some things you can write about on your business blog and remember the more interesting stuff you put on you business blog, the more people will come back. Blogging is an easy and inexpensive way for your business to connect with customers.

When you start a business you need to have perseverance to get past hurdles and to get your ideas off the ground. But even more important then perseverance, is staying focused on things that count! It’s oh so easy to get sidetracked on things that don’t help building your business. Below you’ll find eight tips to help you get your business off the ground.

1. Focus on repeat customers

Bringing in new customers is of course vital to a new business, but keeping your old customers is even more important. Why? You’ve already put in the time and money to get those customers, so keeping them is very important.

2. Focus on profitable customers

A lot of entrepreneurs make the mistake of chasing after any business they can get (even if it costs a lot of time and has a little profit.) You should focus on the profitable customers who will spend a lot. Always focus on the “ideal” customer for your type of business.

3. Focus on cash flow

You should work out how much revenue you need every day to make a profit right from the start. Knowing how much money comes in and goes out on a daily basis will help you to determine sales or marketing budgets. Making a cash-flow statement each week will help you tremendously in your business building efforts.

4. Focus on what’s working

As a start-up owner it’s easy to focus on many different things, even on the once that doesn’t work. Beginning business should be flexible about moving to what works and what makes the most profit. Don’t try to sell or do things that the market doesn’t want, especially in the first two years of business start-up.

5. Focus on productive time

The first year of business start-up you should put at least 75% of your day in the making-money end of the business. You should trying to make a sale and to market your product, rather then sitting behind a desk.

6. Focus on customer service

In number 5 we said that you should focus on making money, we know that customer service only cost money and time, but it’s important that you customers are happy, because a happy customer is a repeat customer. So a portion of your daily time needs to go to customer service.

7. Focus on hiring the best

Always hire the best person you can find to expand your team. You should never settle for the best of a bad bunch. OK, hiring the best can cost you more, but such people will be well worth the price. These people will help you in building a successful business.

8. Focus on quality

You should always focus on quality with everything you do. Never go for quantity instead of quality. An example: We rather have 25 great customers than 100 average ones.

If you’re like most new business owners you’re probably investing a large portion of your life savings in your business, so you need to ensure that your business start-up will be around for long time, right? Follow these 8 rules to help you make sure that the business you’re starting will have a fighting chance to survive.

1. Enjoying what you do

Every starting business owner knows that they have to put in many hours (especially at start-up) each week to make the start-up a success. So it’s very important that you enjoy what the company does and what running a business entails. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, you probably won’t put in the hours that are needed!

2. Solid Profit Margin

This may sound simple, but this is where many starters go wrong; don’t start if you can’t ensure a solid profit margin! This is vital for long term success. If you have to get by on the slimmest of margins, you won’t enjoy (see 1) owning and doing business.

3. First Business?

If it’s the first business you are starting, then think about buying an existing business instead of starting your own. Why? As with everything in live, doing something for the first time is hardest. You need to learn the business side first, so you won’t have the time to invent everything yourself. Buying an existing business will give you time to focus on learning how to do business.

4. Important Research

Before you start you need to do a lot of research on all kinds of things, but one of the most important things to research is; if you are starting a business in a growing market. So do the research and make sure your potential competitors aren’t all going out of business (what will indicate that there’s no market for the type of product or service you want to sell.) Growth rates are very important, so do your research!

5. Serve them Well

Serve you customers well and they’ll come back! This rule is very important, because repeat business is where the profit is. Getting new customers is hard and expensive, so make sure that old customers want to buy from you over and over again.

6. Recurring Costs

There will be times when you’re first starting out that you’ll have slow cash-flow. So keep you recurring costs as low as possible, you can always upgrade later! So don’t lease that expensive car or piece of equipment, instead search for secondhand and pay cash for it. This way you won’t cripple yourself by committing to expenses years in advance, giving you more breathing room when the cash-flow is low.

7. Good Advice

Every business owner has areas where they lack certain skills or expertise. This is why many business owners hire a good attorney, accountant and business coach. If you don’t have the expertise yourself than it make business sense to hire the best person for the job. Tip: if you hire for example an accountant then always ask why they do certain things, this way you can learn from them and you will over time gain knowledge in their field.

8. Working Hard

As every starting business owner can tell you, you need to be prepared to work really hard for the first year or two. Business is not coming flying your way; you need to work at it. Working at making sales, marketing and networking are vital to build a solid cash-flow and profit. Things will get though at times, but you need to stick with, things should get easier after time.

Ensuring start-up success is far from an exact science. The best tips we can give you are; adapt and keep learning!

People are always looking for ways to improve their lives and that of their families. Starting a business is such a way. But what if you can’t come up with a great business idea? Then maybe starting a franchised business is something for you.

Below you will find some reasons to choose franchising over starting your business from scratch:

1. Whatever business you like to get in, there is always someone who is franchising an industry you like.

2. There is something for every budget. You have franchised businesses that range from million dollar operations to small business operations.

3. Starting a franchising business is one of the safest ways of starting a new business. (The reason is that someone else already has figured out what to do and don’t.)

4. As long as you have chosen a good franchise, the change that the franchise is profitable is very high. Franchises have a very high success rate.

5. A good franchise will offer you a proven business format. In most cases you’re not only getting initial support, but also long term support. Franchisors often have field support staff to help franchisees.

6. A franchise business will operate (in most cases) under an already-established brand. In most cases the brand has proven itself.

7. Franchising gives you the opportunity to build a profitable business that can be resold.

8. You don’t have to come up with the business idea and someone else already has figured everything out. What is better than that?

9. In most cases franchise businesses must follow the marketing and sales strategy the franchisor describes. But this is a good thing! It will save you time and money to do other things.

10. In most cases franchise businesses buy there supplies together. This buying power helps in getting huge discounts, saving you a lot of money.

The reasons why some want to start a business vary per person. Below you find 10 great reasons why some wants to start a business.

1. Your own Boss

Are you sick of managers giving you a hard time? If you start-up your own business, the only manager you have to answer to is yourself. This will give you the freedom to things your way. You determine which plans will be implemented and in what time frame.

2. Your Interests

You get to do what you’re interested in, if you start your own business. You get to pick in which type of business you want to make a living. For instance you can turn a hobby or interest into a profitable enterprise. This is one of the great reasons why many people want to become an entrepreneur.

3. Your Deadlines

In your “normal job” the manager determines what the deadline is for a specific project. When you start your own firm then you get determine the deadlines. Of course the client also has something to say about is, but if you don’t like the deadline then you can determine if you want to take on the project or not.

4. Your Way

When you start your own business you have to determine how things are done. Being an entrepreneur gives you the freedom to express yourself. You can develop your own concepts in any way you choose. The only thing that can stop you is maybe perhaps financial constraints.

5. Not that Hard

In the beginning it may seem to be a daunting task to start your own (accounting, taxes and red tap). But it isn’t as difficult as people let you believe. In the last couple of years many measures have been introduced to simplify things. Sure, you probably have to learn many new things, but this also a great thing of becoming an entrepreneur.

6. Profitable Business

Although the start-up process can be tough, with long hours and almost no money coming in, but in the long run owning a business can be very profitable. In fact the sky is the limit. If you run your business well, the rewards can be huge.

7. Variation in Work

A great thing from being an entrepreneur is that you get to do many different things. It’s very different from the “normal” monotonous 9 to 5 job you currently have. If you like to learn and do new things then going at it alone could be something for you.

8. No Commute

Although most small firms operate from an offices-building, many business beginners start a business in their own home. The great thing of having a home business is that you can cut the commute. The time that you save can be used to do payed work.

9. Best of both Worlds

Of course, if you don’t fancy giving up a regular income, you can always get the best of both worlds and stay as an employee while running your own business. There are a lot of people that have a regular job with a (online) business on the side.

Especially an online business can be very easy to run on the side, because you can automate many tasks. To make your online business (your second job) a success, you should pick a subject you really like (for instance something that you do as a hobby.)

10. Dreams

The great thing of being an entrepreneur is that the dreams that you have can become a reality. Whether this dream is financial or just spending more time at home, owning your own business is the way to go to realize your dreams. In regular job you almost never get the change. It is up to you to realize your dreams (no one will do it for you), so give it a go!

We received the following question: “Can I call my company whatever I like?”
To give you the answer right away; no you can’t!

So be careful when you pick the name for your business.

For example words or expressions that are deemed to be offensive are in most countries not allowed. (Note that rules may vary per country, so always check it before you cross that brilliant business name of the list.)

There is no list with these words, so you’ll have to use your own judgment what they are, but if they include swearing or phrases generally considered insulting then the chances are they are not permissible.

There are also phrases that are deemed to be ‘sensitive’ and you will have to gain permission to use them before you do. There are five main groups of these words:

Words that suggest national importance, like national, international or British

Describe a particular function like a charity or trust.

Special status or authority such as association, Royal, Chamber of Commerce.

Names that refer to specialist activities like surveyor or chemist.

Names that would give the impression that the business is connected to the government of your country.

If your country has a royal family then probably you can’t give the impression that your business is connected with the royal family.

Sole Traders

A sole trader can trade under their own name or under a business partner name. Sole traders are not allowed to use Ltd or plc in their name. Note: using your own name in your business name is not mandatory for a sole trader.

Limited Companies

If you have chosen to start a Limited Company then the business name must end with limited or Ltd and you can’t use this word in your name anywhere else (example: Cheap Limited Supplies Ltd for a wholesaler is not allowed.

Choosing a business name is one of the most important things that you’ll have to do at business start-up. Unfortunately it’s also one of the first decisions you have to make and a wrong name can hurt the business down the line. You should read the guide below before committing to a business name.

What’s in a business name?

In a rational world a business with a strong product or service can expect to make a healthy profit. However, it takes more than a strong product or service to get the message across to the customers that your product or service is better than that of your competitors.

The business name is one of the first things that a potential buyer will notice. This fact makes the right business name more important than your sales pitch or even your end product.

The business name is the entry point to your business, so it’s essential that you strike the right tone with your business. Your might have the best idea in the world, but if people are looking elsewhere because of the competitors “looks” then no one will even know that your product or service is the best.

Brand

However, successful companies don’t just have good names, they develop a brand. When starting a company your brand is of vital importance, because brands can literally sell themselves. Branding is not just a memorable logo, but also an effective, memorable name that can really help people remember the business (or a specific product from the business.)

Choosing a memorable name is easier said than done. After all you want to stand out from your competition but you also need to be taken seriously. A good idea is to say the name several times a day to make sure that you like how it sounds before committing.

Ideally, names should be original, snappy and instantly informative as to what your business does and sells. Customers should be drawn to a name that stands out from the crowd, but also find it trustworthy and professional.

Tips for Naming a Business

Below you’ll find some tips that you should keep in mind when you choose your company name at business start-up.

Make sure the business name is legally obtainable.

The name should symbolize what you do as well as what you will be doing for years to come.

Don’t limit yourself for long-term goals and targets. Most businesses usually start life doing one thing but ultimately end up doing something entirely different.

Make sure that the premium domain name is free.

Select your business name with passion.

· Emphasize those qualities, which you wish to promote. (For instance the words cheap and discount if you sell products in a low-price market.)

The business name should be easy to pronounce and simple to say.

The spelling should be simple.

Try to set your business apart. Ensure that your name does not sound too similar to competitors.

Humor in a company name can also be an easy way for people to remember your business.

Brainstorm Session for a Company Name

Now that you have a few suggestions for creating your business name you should start brainstorming session. Get some people together, like staff or family, and come-up with at least 10 business names.

After that, create ten more business names by playing around with various words from the first ten names. (The list should now have 20 potential business names.)

Rate all 20 names to find out which you like best and make sure to repeat the words to yourself to hear how they sound aloud. Watch your friends’ and family to see how they respond to the names.

Good naming and good luck with you business start-up!

As an entrepreneur there are no bounds to the types of businesses you could start. But if you’re stuck for ideas then below you’ll find a few key areas worth exploring. Some of them are specially created with young entrepreneurs in mind.

Tap Into Your Own Age Market

Try to tap into your own age market to come up with some good ideas. For instance if you still under 35 then you belong to a demographic group most businesses are after. The people in this age class usually have large amount of disposable income. They usually also have more free time to spend their money.

The big companies normally spend large amounts of money on extensive market research on this age bracket. So here you in the advantage because have the same age as potential customers. So you’ll probably have some idea what people your age like and what they don’t.

Watch your friends (don’t ask, just watch), what are they into, what are they doing, what sports they play, how much money they spend, etc. Maybe after a while you’ll come up with a good business idea for a product or service.

Look Local for Business Ideas

This one is for all ages. If you are active in your local community then this can be a perfect breeding ground for business start-up ideas.

Try to find a list with all local businesses. Do they for instance need goods that are not locally produced? Could you make it cheaper, so that you can sell it at local businesses?

Look around locally for opportunities, especially at things you yourself find hard to do or get in your local community (probably there are more people with the same problem.) For example: can’t find a good takeaway meal, you are struggling to find your child a nursery place or day-care or nearest taxi service is 3 hours away. All these things can mean an opportunity for you to start a business that will do very well locally.

Look at your Lifestyle

Your own lifestyle can be source of inspiration for new business ideas. The beauty of using your own lifestyle as the basis for a business is that you’ll have a passion for whatever you choose. And a bit of passion for a subject can help a long way!

For example you have a hobby horseback riding. Maybe you could start horse breeding program, give riding lessons or make horse figures out of wood.

Another example: you like to watch the sunset every evening from your porch. Maybe you can make porch swing or special chairs from local wood.

Take a good look at the way you and your family life and maybe you get some inspiration.

Do Something!

We don’t know the reason why you are looking for business ideas. Maybe you’ve become disillusioned with the way your boss does business and said the following many times to your colleagues “If I where in charge..” or “Why did they take this decision, are they n…”

Then you have to do something about it. Don’t just sit their complaining that if you were in charge things would be better, do something about it. Start your own business and prove them wrong (hopefully make a lot of money in the process.) With action from you, nothing will happen.

Remember that the vast majority of the larger companies were started by one person with as much market experience as you’ve probably got now. What is the difference between them and people that are now working for them? They did something, they see a problem or an opportunity and they took it. This can be you! The only thing you’ve to do is to go for it and start your own business.

If people hear the word entrepreneur many of them automatically think of people like Richard Branson and his successful businesses. These top entrepreneurs have set up and run more successful businesses than most us could ever do in several lifetimes. Sure these people have become a synonym for the word entrepreneur, but actually an entrepreneur is anyone who chooses to go at it alone.

More and more people are choosing the route of an entrepreneur as a career choice. Gone are the days when you had to have years of business experience before you might even consider taking the plunge with a start-up of your own. Nowadays it looks like everybody give it go and probably you are also thinking about it, otherwise you wouldn’t read this type of article. Reading these types of articles are the first steps into becoming an entrepreneur. (Doing research is very important to become successful!)

Reasons for Starting a Business

The variety of reasons why someone chooses a career as an entrepreneur is endless. Some people see it as an escape from the nine-to-five existence and others just see it as an opportunity to do something that is closer to their heart.

There is also a large group that see it as a lifestyle choice. They don’t care how big their business becomes, but they care more about the effect it could have on their lives (for instance spending more time with their family.)

Take for instance someone who made a business out of an old hobby. They don’t care how big the business ends up; they just like to do what they did within their hobby. They are happy if they can make a living from the things they love to do, whether the business is large or small!

Others even choose a complete other country to start a business. Why? For most of them it is a combination of the weather and the culture in that country.

Business Qualities you Need

Some qualities are essential for an entrepreneur and to become successful. One of the most important qualities to have is passion. No matter how much potential your business might have to make money (online) or how good you business idea is, without having a firm believe in your business no one else will have it. A bit of self-belief in your own abilities and business sense can go an awful long way.

Another quality besides passion is commitment. From the first day you start your business you’ll need to work very hard and probably make long hours. Often you need to forgo friends and family to get the business of the ground. You need to ask yourself if you’re prepared to make this kind of sacrifice and if you can motivate yourself (and you’re new staff) to work these (first) long hours.

As you’ve probably realized by now, you’ll going through all of this on your own! You’ll probably even feel lonely from time to time.

Conclusion

So while you don’t need qualifications on paper to start a business, it doesn’t mean that just anyone can become an entrepreneur. But if you think you’ve got what it takes then it could be one of the best decisions you ever make.
